Who is the best POP artist these days? Quem é o melhor artista POP do momento?

Nestes últimos dez anos, basicamente desde que a descobri, que a música tem evoluído de uma forma exponencial. Desta forma, a ascensão e declínio de diferentes estilos musicais tem sido uma constante.

Lembro-me perfeitamente da primeira vez que ouvi "Oops!... I did it Again" de Britney Spears. O locutor da rádio já previa que a menina Americana de 17 anos seria um dia uma das mais amadas cantoras de sempre. Desde essa altura, vários nomes foram aparecendo: uns ficaram, outros nem tanto. Obviamente que não podemos esquecer dos artistas que já eram bastante acarinhados como Madonna desde os anos 80, ou Michael Jackson desde os 70, tendo sido estes (ah e Cher e Elton John!) os grande ícones de cada década.

Ora, foi nos anos 90 que apareceram as chamadas boys e girls band, em que todos reconhecemos o mérito dos Take That (grupo que voltou ao activo em 2005 e com Robbie Williams mais recentemente, lançando um novo álbum), Blue, BackStreet Boys, N'Sync e West Life como grupos masculinos, e Sugababes, Spice Girls e Destiny's Child como grupos femininos mais conhecidos. Surgiram também nesta década artistas memoráveis como Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, tendo-se tornado nas artistas que mais vendeu nessa década.

Tal como comecei a dizer, foi desde o início do 2º milénio que dei mais atenção a música e agora sei que Britney Spears e Madonna são as grande rainhas desta década. Blackout foi considerado o 5º melhor album POP de sempre e Madonna foi a mulher mais pesquisada em motores de busca. Outros artistas como Pink e o grupo t.A.T.u tiveram a sua rampa de lançamento, alcançando grandes prémios. Outros grandes artistas POP tiveram a sua rampa de lançamento nesta altura, mas, obviamente, não há grande interesse em nomeá-los a todos.

Também tal comecei a dizer, muitos estilos musicas foram predominando ao longo dos anos e, por isso, não posso deixar de salientar, a importância que o Rock, Punk e Metal tiveram na cena musical, principalmente desde desde 2002, deixando o POP nestes anos um pouco mais em baixo, sendo que apesar de ouvido, não se notava nenhum artista como verdadeiramente dominante.

No meu ponto de vista, foi em 2008 que se deu a maior explosão POP. Isto, claro, com o aparecimento de artistas como Lady Gaga. Pink, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake já haviam mostrado o seu potencial, sendo hoje reconhecidos como dos maiores artistas da actualidade, mas foi Lady Gaga que, com os seus métodos que até àquele momento, não haviam sido experienciado, diga-se como forma de marketing ou de fazer música de modo a atingir a popularidade, mudou o rumo da POP. Não se pode negar a mudança que surgiu, e a alteração das posições, o surgimento e ascensão de novos artistas como Jessie J e Adele, desde esta altura. Lady Gaga foi, sem dúvida, uma das maiores estrelas do final dos anos 00.

E agora? Quem são os maiores desta década? ou melhor quem se consagrará o maior? É visivel o enorme esforço dos artistas em mostrar ser os melhores. Mas quem "ganhará esta competição?" Deixo ao vosso critério no questionário ao lado.

Over the past ten years, basically since I discovered it,  that the music has evolved from an exponential form. Thus, the rise and decline of different musical styles has been a constant.I remember perfectly the first time I heard "Oops ... I Did It Again" by Britney Spears. The radio locutor already predicted that the 17 year old American girl would one day be one of the most beloved singers of all time. Since then, several artists have appeared.Obviously we can not forget the artists who were already very cherished like Madonna since the 80's, or Michael Jackson from the 70's, they were (oh and Cher and Elton John!) the great icons of each decade.Now, it was in the 90's that boys and girls band appeard, in which all recognize the merit of Take That (who returned to active  in 2005 with Robbie Williams and more recently, releasing a new album), Blue, Backstreet Boys, West Life as N'Sync as male groups, and Sugababes, Spice Girls and Destiny's Child as the most popular female groups. Also appeared in this decade memorable artists like Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera becoming the biggest selling artists in this decade.As I started to say, was from the early 2nd millennium I gave more attention to music and now I know that Britney Spears and Madonna are the great queens of this decade. Blackout was considered the 5th best pop album of all time and Madonna was the most searched woman on search engines. Other artists like Pink and the group tATu had their launching pad, reaching great prizes. Other great artists have had their POP launch pad at this time, but obviously there isn't big interest in naming them all.Also as I started to say, many music styles were predominant over the years and, therefore, I must point out the importance of Rock, Punk and Metal had on the music scene, especially since since 2002, leaving POP in these years a little lower down, and despite of being heard,  any artist was truly dominant.In my view, it was in 2008 that began the greatest explosion POP.This, of course, with the apperance of artists like Lady Gaga. Pink, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake had already shown its potential, and is now recognized as the greatest artists of all time, but it was Lady Gaga, with their methods that haven't been experienced yet changed the course of POP. No one can deny the changes that come since then,  and the rise of new artists such as Jessie J and Adele, from this point. Lady Gaga was undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of the late 00th.And now? Who are the greatest POP artist of this decade? Or  who will be the greatest one? It is visible the enormous effort of these artists to show to be the best. But who "will win this competition?" I leave up to you to hand in the poll that's in the right.
